In a time when so much of the political world can feel so toxic and heavy, Pete Buttigieg's voice still manages to be calming and uplifting, no matter how thorny the issue he is dissecting. In this short yet powerful book, Pete reflects on this tumultuous election year and his own candidacy for president, and muses on a particular element he finds to be glaringly absent and desperately needed in our shared democracy and current leadership -- you guessed it, TRUST. He talks about learning to trust others with his life in the military, and about how to navigate a current presidency that has been bursting with lies, and find our way back to the systems and checks and balances upon which our country's leadership and most trusted traditions are built. I find Pete to be quite Obama-esque (a most high compliment!) as a thinker and orator, and am hopeful and excited to see how his political future continues to unfold. I trust we will be seeing much more of his rational, reassuring presence on the national stage in the years to come.
I continue to be in awe of Pete Buttigieg. This was a great book and very timely. I loved the address to his supporters on ending his 2020 presidential campaign. What a treat. I just loved this!
