I didn’t love this book. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great, pretty forgettable. But, it was for bookclub so it was fun enough to read. I’m writing this review like a month alter and I honestly don’t remember much of the book. I do remember that they tried to make the mom and son seem like they had a much worse relationship than was shown through the book, which I think was most of my problem with it.

This book was way too dragged out in the middle and while the twist at the end was good, the boring middle section ruined the build up.

Solid 3 star read ⭐️
This one follows Molly and her troubled teen son as they move back to her hometown after her father has a stroke. Molly being back in her hometown brings back up a lot of traumatic memories because her mother was murdered there years ago when she was a toddler. We follow two different timelines, the present and the past.
I was really excited for this one and was enjoying it until about the halfway point when I felt it started to drag a bit. I also felt the twists and conclusions were kind of confusing to follow/fully grasp for some reason.
I did really enjoy the past chapters though. I found them to be so intriguing and found Edie to be a very unlikable yet interesting character. I wish the past and present kind of intertwined more in the present chapters, but I still really enjoyed my time reading this ARC!

As a trained therapist and a volunteer for a local helpline, Molly's intentions of making a fresh start are quickly overshadowed by chilling reminders of a violent trauma that has lingered in the town's consciousness—her mother's murder, for which her testimony as a child implicated a teenager. Lundrigan masterfully navigates through Molly's journey, challenging the reliability of memory and the devastating impact of secrets long buried. Perfect for anyone looking for psychological intrigue and a compelling mystery.

I am reluctant to share too much about this one, because I want the twists to remain for future readers.
I will mention things that I loved about it instead: multiple POVs, multiple twists and turns, timeline switches. I really felt like the author did a lot of work to make sure each character and POV was well thought out.
Though I received an e-arc for this novel, I mistakenly let it lapse and so I used an audiobook credit from Libro to get the audio version and I am glad I did! It was great to have different voice actors for each POV.
Although it was a very long book/audiobook, I was gripped the entire time and couldn’t wait to see where it went next.
I received an e-arc in exchange for an honest review and I’d like to thank NetGalley, Penguin Random House Canada, and Nicole Lundrigan for the opportunity.
