Hands down the best middle book of a trilogy I've ever read, perhaps Abercrombie's best work so far as well. It was an improvement over its predecessor in every single way, with an enthralling plot, impeccable pacing, and amazing character development, which left me wondering where the hell the story would even go from here, considering everything that happened. I would have finished it in 3 days which would be the fastest I ever read a 500+ page book, if I hadn't postponed reading the last act due to real-life matters. Without spoilers, I would say it just encompasses the best of everything he has to offer into a single book, but the stakes are higher than last time, and it's executed better than ever. I believe this book has cemented
Orso and Rikke
as my favorite characters in the new trilogy, and as much as I would like to gush about my newfound favorites, this is one of those instances where I would just prefer to go and read the next book immediately than talk ( Although I won't yet because I am still processing.. ). So yes, no complaints, no extra thoughts, I am simply blown away!

I had a lot of high hopes for this book, and several of them were met, but others were less so. What I've always liked best about Abercrombie is how he writes characters, and there were a handful of moments that I felt like they took a backseat for other purposes. Not a lot, but more than I'm used to in the Fist Law books. Still, excitement is high for the third and final book of the trilogy. Please more King Jappo!!!!
