This is a brilliant adaptation of 1984, capturing the darkness and somber moods of the book. Well worth reading

This book is an adult dystopian graphic novel. It is based upon 1984 by George Orwell. I can't really say I enjoyed the novel as it is very grim. The art style is dark. The art is well done. It is years since I read the original 1984 so I cannot say how well the artist captured the words of the original. As with many books with sci-fi elements, the technological parts didn't age very well. It is an interesting read. It didn't really make me want to go back and read the original 1984 though.

glad george orwell has allegedly admitted in letters that this took a turn into torture p*rn that he didn't intend! because i can so tell why people admire it, but its unrelenting nihilism is suffocating and was only made bearable for me by the interesting artistic choices. there's nothing in this book to make you feel like you're reading about actual humans, with everything being relevant but not so much thought-provoking as it was depressing.

I first read 1984 in January of 2020. At that time, I saw the red flags and some haunting similarities. Reading the graphic novel now two years later after all that’s happened since? I bitterly laughed my way through it because there is so much of our current world mirrored on the pages now. It happened so abruptly (but then again, maybe not) and continues on. It feels like most days the mourning period is over.

Terrific illustrations and not as condensed as I’d expected it to be. The reality slap aside, it was great to revisit the story. A true work of genius. In comparison to real life, I maintain my optimism that we might not ever reach the exact same bleakness conveyed in the book. And if we do, that hope is never lost. Regardless, though my eyes are open, reading this was a good reminder to keep them that way.
