This book is a great novel study for Grade 5 or 6 students. The main character, Roy, is unaware of exactly why vandalism is occurring at the construction side of the new pancake house, but eventually gets dragged into the mystery through a series of events. The language and humor of the novel will appeal to intermediate students, and the theme of conservation is a great one to discuss in class.

I enjoyed this but it didn't quite live up to the hype I'd experiences about it. It was a good story with some unique characters. Definitely a good pick for younger y.a. readers. The story isn't particularly complex but it's a fun summer read.

Written so children can understand it, even youngsters who are getting it by being read to. Hiassen has a message for all.ages about just how we should treat our furry, finned. and feathered neighbors. Fun villans and savvy kids.

Healing my inner child means re-reading my fav childhood book :)))))

Dipping into my kids’ books during quarantine.
Great story about the new kid in town and his unique ability to turn lemons into lemonade.
In fighting for a cause he believes in, Roy must choose between legal and illegal, right and wrong, moral and immoral - something even the town’s adults have trouble with. His new-found friends help him navigate even the grey areas.

This book was WILD!

A girl who can bite holes in bike tires?
Feral children?
Construction-site sabotage?

And the audio version was phenomenal! Highly recommend listening to this one!

Second book I just read by Hiaasen and I'm looking forward to more. He is really bringing a modern twist to Edward Abbey-ness.

Really easy book to read, and very cute and wholesome! Great environmental message too, which I am a huge fan of. There’s mystery, humor, and a obvious bad guy, with a nice conclusion at the end. Definitely a must-read.
