Such a cute little story! It was well written with interesting characters and a lovely plot. Not only that, but it's set in my state which always makes me feel a bit of pride - ironic considering I don't like Florida haha

I never knew such owls existed and I certainly didn't know they're native to here. Now I have the desire to research them and see what else I can learn and if there's any near my neck of the woods.

Most importantly - no romance! Finally, a book where a guy and a girl can be friends without crushing on each other! I was beginning to think such a thing didn't exist anymore.

A fun book with an environmental theme. The movie was pretty lame, though, so stick with the book.

If I would have read this book around sixth grade I would have enjoyed it more. Still it is a good book to introduce kids to reading and wildlife preservation.

Summary:
With his dad's government job, Roy Eberhardt moves often. So the move to Coconut Cove was nothing to him. What was Florida anyway; it didn't have mountains or cliffs like Montana. Roy knew he would never call it home. The only thing Roy could notice besides golf courses and flip flops was Dana Madison's fist. Obviously school wasn't easy for him, though if it weren't for Dana Madison Roy would have never had the adventure he needed that year. On his way to school, with Dana shoving his face against the bus window, Roy saw the running boy. After that curiosity was all he needed to find out more...
Roy, Beatrice, and her step-brother Mullet Fingers (aka running boy) are in for a wild ride when they try to protect defenseless owls from being bullied by a greedy corporation.

Love Hiaasen. It took me a bit to get into this one, but once I did it was as fun as ever.

Really fun, would definitely recommend for middle schoolers. It's adventurous and in parts ridiculous and hilarious. I liked how Hiaasen treats kids as moral autonomous agents with their own perspectives and opinions. This book isn't overly dumbed down, nor are the kids savants in every facet of knowledge. Fun book.
