It ain’t for me, babe. I got halfway through but I just couldn’t deal with everything.

I’d like to preface this by saying, I come from a Giana Darling painted MC universe so the slang is very familiar to me. Even so, the terms used and overall way they talked was millions of miles apart from The Fallen. The casual use of b*tch for a loved one and throwing “you are the most beautiful b*tch I’ve ever seen” feels like 13 year-olds playing gangster in the courtyard. Using “the brother” repeatedly in consecutive sentences instead of their name or just a simple pronoun sounded unnatural and cringe as hell. Not to mention the whole “giving to Hades” stuff that was just straight out Greek fanclub material.

Mae came from a very traumatic past and has been through things unimaginable to most. And then she laid eyes on the boy of her dreams and all her sexual trauma just went out the window. No PTSD, no reluctance, no nothing. I understand the need to cleanse the past with new experiences and I’m fortunate enough to not be able to speak from experience, but from the outside it felt dismissed and overlooked.

Again, with The Fallen in mind, I have two more problems. First, the view of women as “property”. Although their Old Lady cuts say “property of…” and that is a common occurrence that I have no trouble with, the idea that that woman is one of the guys’ property and she belongs to him is perpetuated throughout the book and it feels patriarchal as hell. Zeus’ crew would never, even though they’re territorial as hell. Second problem is their family, or lack-there-of. I expected to discover a found family within the club members and the ladies, but I stumbled upon a case of love triangles, questioning authority, backstabbing b*tches and rats. Mae wasn’t welcomed right away and not for a while, showing that the club didn’t really trust their Prez but rather feared his wrath.
