3.5 stars rounded up! I liked this book, but there were times I was so confused because of a lack of adequate world building. The last half of the book got really good and I’m excited to read the next one! Love a good found family!

 REVIEW
I usually don't read YA, but I really loved this book.I instantly feel in love with Fable. Her storyline was entertaining and interesting. Also LOVED the tension between her and west. The vibes were great. It’s quite a short book and a light and easy read wich i really liked as well. The storyline was a little predictable but that’s fine with me, as long as its still entertaining, wich it really was. Can’t wait to read the other books in the series.

I HATED Zola from the moment he first appeared. Still I hope we will see more of him in the next book. Because I just love the drama. lol.

The characters were really loveable. I liked the subtle LGBTQ+ rep -
the relationship between Oyster and Paj was really sweet
. Overall great characters with interesting traits and backstory for such a short book, especially YA really great.

Sky in the Deep was amazing while The Girl The Sea Gave Back was a letdown. I read Fable knowing it wouldn’t grasp my attention like Sky in the Deep but I still had an open mind. Fable was very slow from the beginning until the 50% mark. The second half was faster paced and had a small degree of action. I didn’t like or dislike Fable; there wasn’t anything that made her stand out compared to other female characters in young-adult novels. I didn’t like Willa or West for the majority of the novel since they both were cold towards Fable. After the half mark, Willa’s personality shifted and she wasn’t as annoying and harsh. West, on the other hand, remained the same from start to finish. How he treated Fable fell into the elementary school stereotype of “when boys are mean to you it really means they like you”. They hardly interacted throughout the story since West was always angry at Fable and then suddenly at the end he announced he fell in love with her the moment he saw her two years ago. That was an eye-rolling moment, especially when Fable realized she loved him in return.

I knew exactly how it would end (cliffhanger of course) and since the story was mediocre I will read the next one to see what happens. Thank you NetGalley for the ARC.

Another great seafaring adventure! Despite the plot being really predictable, I really enjoyed the MC's journey of finding a place for herself after being left behind to fend for herself. The narration was also very good. I look forward to the rest of the series.
