Really enjoyed this! Qui k easy read with a very descriptive setting that puts you right there. Loved the main characters and their detailed history. Didn’t know this was a two-parter so the cliff hanger made me go wide eyed and immediately go get the next book.
I appreciated the lack of instalove and love triangles, other than that it was an easy read that was not memorable.

This book had a slow start for me.
There was so many new terms to learn right away and it was kinda obvious how it was going to go.
I was enjoying it though so I powered through and I AM SO HAPPY I DID!
Things wrapped up in such good ways but it left on an amazing cliffhanger and I cannot wait to read the next one! Glad I don’t have to wait too long.
This has everything I look for in a book: world building, character driven and romance of course!
This was a fantastic read!

The writing in this book makes this world and its characters come alive in vivid detail. Fable is a compelling character, and the narrator infuses Fable's attitude in every sentence. I greatly enjoyed this read.

Fable by Adrienne Young is an extremely immersive story. Young's descriptions of seafaring and dredging painted a perfect picture of the Narrows and the Unnamed Sea.
I also had the sense that she did her research when it came to the terminology and act of sailing. I am not well versed in that myself, so I could be wrong, but it came across to me that she knew what she was writing about - I think I may have learned a thing or to!
Some of my favourite scenes include the crew working together manning the Marigold out of trouble.
There is also a good pace to this book. The action is spaced out nicely to keep the pages turning.
There were times I felt this could be a 5* read for me but ultimately I felt there was a lack of character development which caused me to reconsider.
There were times where Fable does what seems to be quite out of character things:Such as when she outs herself as a gem mage in front of the merchants in Dern. It makes no sense considering her parentage.
One character in particular, I felt, drew the short straw. Hamish the treasurer. I don't recall learning much about him, how he came to be on the ship or what this all means for him.
We did learn this about the others on the crew through their relationships to each other.West and Willa are siblings. Auster and Paj are in love and from Bastian.
There is a cliffhanger to this book.
Fable is abducted and forced on to Zola's ship. Waiting for her there is , her uncle figure from the Lark, Clove.
I think this was a fairly good twist, as Saint chooses his word carefully. He tells Fable that he is "gone". From that I did infer there was something more going on with Clove but with a large portion of the books focus being the grief of the family it felt equally plausible that he could be dead.
