This was 4.5 stars for me, but I decided to round up because I just really loved the voice of the main character and the rich scientific / historical lens on both a pandemic and childbirth.

While this was a quick read and I admire the author's ability to write a novel that basically takes place in one room, I felt it was lacking.

*Spoiler alert ahead*: There was all this build and build and build and build and then it felt like she kind of panicked in the end and said "Ok let's make it more relevant and let's make them gay. I didn't buy the relationship at all. Then things just rapidly ended and didn't fit with the slow plodding of the rest of the story.

Nakousla i další témata o církvi a chudobě.
