This is a cute and fun book, that is perfect to cuddle up with. There was some funny moments, and some sad moments. I liked how we got to see a bit of Lilian's life too. And, I liked the references to different sweets. This is a book for those who loves candy and contemporary books.
This was an adorable, cozy book! I loved the way the candy and sweets were described. I adore the setting. There were a few little mistakes in the paperback edition I read - the year being typed in the flashbacks as 1942 when it should have been 1943, or vice versa. A scene where the wrong name was used for a character. And sometimes not enough information was given to explain a situation. A bit vague in places, like when Rosie realizes a character is gay, but doesn’t say it to the reader out right until a page or two later, and I have to go back and read the scene again to even try and make sense of it. But none of these things were enough for me to feel justified in giving this less than five stars. It’s not perfect, but it’s sweet and thoroughly enjoyable.
