3.5 ✨ I enjoyed this for the most part, although it did feel a bit boring after a bit: I wasn’t really connected to the story or the characters :/ of course I loved the bookish elements, the nods to Peter Pan, and the pretty writing. It’s more character driven, and those stories only work for me when I am in love with the characters.

Decent enough YA book. Story does not align with title so I was disappointed that although the main character loves words and reading, there was no library nor did the plot revolve around a library or books themselves other than the quotes from Peter Pan at the start of each chapter.

This story was well done. I really enjoyed Darcy and getting to know her and her world. She is almost 18 and for most of her life has been dealing with and trying to cover the fact that her mother is a hoarder. She helps try and hold things together but inside and outside the home and it is definitely a balancing act that takes a toll. Darcy uses books and literary works to escape into and help her through life. Darcy is starting to feel her world closing in with the changes happening at the apartment complex and she is trying to make it to 18 so CPS can't/won't get involved and pull her from her mother. She is trying to help her mother get better and following the advice/guidelines from the therapist they use to see. She runs into Asher next door and it seemingly sets things onto a different path. I loved watching Asher and Darcy get to know each other and build a friendship and safe place for each other with what they both had going on. It takes time for both of them to open up but they start sharing things that they don't share with others. The one person that Darcy is really open with is her best friend but otherwise her world of people she trusts and really lets in is very small. I loved watching this open up to Asher and how he knew how special it was, even when he didn't know the whole picture yet. This story has quite a bit of introspection and reflection as Darcy is trying to manage everything and the changes she has being thrown at her. This story was well done and engaging and I really enjoyed it.

The Library of Lost Things is a read that really spoke to me because I feel like I am like Darcy in some ways. I love to read and visit bookshops just like she does. Some people may say that I am a book hoarder too because I buy a lot of books and constantly watch videos about books on Youtube. I think the author did a great job of writing an introvert teenage girl who spends more time in literary worlds than in reality. Before I read this book, I did not know much about hoarding or how it started. I did not know that it is something that you cannot control. I just thought that some people liked to collect a few too many things. So, it was good for me to learn more about hoarding as a mental illness and how it effects the families of hoarders. I really felt for Darcy because I would have been embarrassed to let people into my home too if it was as messy as it was described being. She is a strong person for finally letting the world in and for letting them see the true her. This story felt like it was meant for me because it had the bookworm element and the flight element. I loved hearing all about Asher's dreams and that he was a fully formed character. Some love interests are just tall brooding guys who have no personality. But, I liked that Asher and Darcy's relationship stemmed from a friendship instead of just a mutual attraction. That made their connection deeper and they were able to connect to each other's hardships a lot better. I like how they both helped each other through everything that was bothering them and they had good communication. I feel like the miscommunication trope gets kind of old after a while especially in teenage relationships. My favorite part of the book was the way Darcy and Asher's romance connected to Peter Pan. It was so sweet that Asher took the time to read a book that was obviously so important to Darcy. And, beyond that, he really absorbed it and made it a part of their love story. It was such a cute moment to reveal Darcy finding the acorn charm and what it stood for. And then, Darcy continued it when she gave Asher the thimble. I was so shook to find out that Darcy's Mom was the Peter Pan scribbler. I should have seen it coming. But, I didn't because it was crazy odds that her mother's book would end up back in her daughter's hands after so many years. I could brag on this book all day. But, I will end this review gushing about the author's writing. I really liked a lot of her descriptions of items and moments in this story. I think those touches made this book feel even more like a bookworm's dream come true. I am so glad that I had the opportunity to read this book because it got me through a truly difficult finals week!

The Library of Lost Things sounded like your normal contemporary novel. But once I really started reading it I found that it was so much more. This is one of those titles that is full of the feels and it hits you right in the heart. The story opened with us learning a little about Darcy and her situation with her mom. The author did a great job creating this world of hoarding as well as the character of Darcy and her mom. So may YA titles make the parents there but not and although this one did that sort of, Darcy's mom was there in some respect.
Darcy was such a great character and I have to say that she was way stronger and nicer than I would have been, with her mom's hoarding. I think I most likely would have given up on my mom ages before that and moved in with my grams or something. I am not a clean freak but I do like things being put away. And this goat tunnel system was just insane. I almost wished this would have had pictures or artwork throughout the story just so you could picture it even more.
Side characters in this one were amazing!! Marisol was my spirit animal for anything dealing with clothes and I really need a book about her!!! I want to know what happens in her life past this title!! Then there is Asher, towards the end of the title he reminded me of a Middle Ages woman who was tired of dating and just wanted to settle down. I thought it was so funny that I thought of him this way. But that is just how he made me feel. I loved his character as well and his issues and he was just so grounded.
The writing in this title was phenomenal!! It flowed so well and it just drew you into the story in the best possible way. You just can't put it down because you're just so invested in what is going to happen next. This book is just full of love for authors and books and the only issue I had with it was that hate for ebooks. This debate has been going on forever and I know it won't stop but print books and ebooks are both amazing.
Overall, I would recommend this one to anyone who loves books and bookish things. As well as those who want a story about a girl just trying to not be invisible anymore.

A good story
I loved seeing Darcy find her way in her story. The friendship between her and Marisol is what makes the story, they are the best. The hoarding storyline hits hard, you can really see the mental illness aspect of it all. But I loved seeing Darcy fall in love and start interacting with the world.
