This book sees Kitty teaming together with a bunch of TV paranormal investigators (think Most Haunted) to fight a ghostly presence. I found this quite endearing as the characters mostly had no idea what was going on and weren't all know-it-all supernatural powers as happens in so many series of this kind. For that I give it an extra star.

Kitty gets a demon sent after her!

Compared to the last installment in Kitty's story, this book is much better. It still feels as though the only character the author really cares about is Kitty, or possibly Cormac. The others feel very one-note. That said, fun and goofy. Interesting take on werewolf lore, giving it modern twists and circumstances. Easy reading!

This book scared the crap out of me. I can totally handle werewolves and vampires but I cannot handle ghosts and the whole book was like a ghost story only it was a fire demon that was stalking Kitty. It would show up out of no where and all of a sudden people would be dead. Gives me the chills just thinking about it. What a great book!

So, I’m a pretty big fan of Carrie Vaughn. The first book of hers I read was her first YA book, when it first came out, and then quickly moved to this series, and was instantly caught. I was surprised with how much I liked it, and how quickly I got through the first couple books, and now it’s been a while since I read the last one, but I finally picked this one up. And, again, really enjoyed it.

In this book, Kitty is going up against the Band of Tiamat, the group that she fought in the previous book, only by fighting with a creature they sent after her. She’s still dealing with her pack, who seem to be a bit unhappy with how she’s handling things. Plus, there’s a paranormal TV show coming to town, and she wants to interact with the paranormal investigators all she can, see if they’re real, have them on her show, and is a bit surprised by what she finds out.

So, this was a good book. I love Kitty. She’s nice and entertaining and curious, and I quite like what she’ll do for publicity, and how much she works to get publicity while still not going too far. I like the writing, it’s easy to get through, not overly pretty but not in any way boring either. I’m growing to like Kitty and Ben together. At first, I was all for Kitty and Cormac, and it has taken me a while to get used to Kitty and Ben. They just… It was so sudden, it happened so fast, and I didn’t really believe that Kitty felt real love toward Ben. Now, while I’m looking forward to more convincing in the next books, I am feeling it a bit more. I always liked Ben, I’m just getting used to the KittyandBen romance. There was also, actually, a very tiny, one page, not too explicit, sex scene, which was unexpected (since Vaughn doesn’t tend to do those, at least that I’ve read so far) and very nice.

This book, when it came to action, was good. The TV show crew was cool, their enemy was definitely neat, it wasn’t over-the-top, can’t-look-away exciting, but the action was still very good. I don’t think that, what happened with the Band of Tiamat really ended it, but maybe it did and is going to move onto the bigger bad guy we met, who’s story intersects with that one, and is definitely not over. Either way, that is sure to be interesting, even if it does take a few more books to get to it.

Oh, we got to meet a new character: Peter, T.J.’s little brother. I hope we get to see more of him, because I liked T.J., and it’s obvious how much Kitty misses him. We got to see a tiny bit of Cormac, and that was nice. There weren’t too many, but there were a couple of radio, on-air scenes, which are always really fun to read, one of my favorite parts of these books.

This book was very good, and I’m hoping to read the next one very soon.

A week after the incident at the club, Rick is scanning the city looking for their new enemy. Kitty is interested that a famous TV show called Paradox PI have come to film in Denver for a ghost special and persuade Gary, Tina and Jules to appear on a live special of The Midnight Hour for maximum publicity for all of them. However things turn bad when an entity at the house they film at comes after them and also attacks Kitty's club. A mysterious vampire called Roman tells Kitty that it is a demon stalking her pack and offers his help but Rick does not like a strange vampire on his turf.

I really enjoyed this adventure! The team from the TV show were genuine ghosthunters and not the fake asshats you get in some books so I liked their introduction straight away. I always enjoy the parts featuring Kitty's show but this was given added spice by the joint filming, with Paradox PI using film for their Tv specialand Kitty reporting on events for a spellbound radio audience. It was a fun twist on the normal broadcast. And who can resist an evil, unseen violent entity attacking our heroes? There is a lot of evil spirit action in the book, with it becoming more dangerous at each encounter. It made for a tense plot as Kitty tries to protect her Pack from something she cannot see. You can feel her helplessness at times. Hearing that an old friend from Vegas has vanished only adds to her stress levels.

The addition of Roman adds a new dimension to Kitty's relationship with Rick. Vampire politics dictate that Rick does not want a strange older vampire on his territory, as he knows nothing about him and does not trust him. He does not need to have a rival for power in the city while the entity is on the loose. Kitty is sure that Roman knows something that can help her and wants to find out more but Rick is determined not to let that happen. With her Pack in danger, Kitty may have to risk destroying her alliance with Rick to save the people she loves. The question that goes on through the book is whether or not Roman can be trusted, which adds another layer to the plot.

Kitty also has to face up to her past with the arrival of TJ's younger brother Peter coming to Denver to find answers about his missing brother. Kitty cannot bear to tell him what happened to TJ but Peter is determined to find out. There are a couple of good emotional scenes with Kitty facing up to her grief and guilt and trying to let the past go. Peter also becomes interested in helping by nosing around in Vegas to see if her enemies there might be involved in recent events, but Kitty fears putting him in any more danger.

What I enjoy most about this series is that each book is different in plot. I enjoyed having the ghost hunting element in this book as something different and it introduced new characters that I liked. Kitty's circle of friends and allies are growing and I do like having a range of interesting characters coming in and out of the books. It's better than relying on just a few characters to hold the reader's interest each time. I also liked seeing more of Rick in this one, and seeing Kitty's struggles to protect her Pack.

Overall, another really enjoyable book in a consistant series.
