3.5 stars in reality. And Forgive the fact that it’s been nearly a month since I read this — sometimes I just get fatigued by the process of writing reviews, haha. This was a really sweet book and Benny as the love interest was 10/10! I appreciated Reese’s growth around her own self-worth and around what it means to be someone with feminist values working in a shitty workplace, which I think teen Lena would’ve loved and been very GIRL POWER about… it’s just that at times it did feel very like, Girlboss Second Wave Feminism.

There were a few snags here, a main one being the fact that Benny’s inner conflict (how to differentiate himself from his family, how to grow as an individual) really seemed to resolve itself in a snap second. And the pacing was a tad uneven for me, but I think that’s a personal problem. All in all this was a sweet YA romance with a valid message about sexism in the food industry. Plus, Benny! Just the cutest.

This was a cute, fluffy book, but left me hungry for more substance. I did appreciate the lens of how social media can impact women and how to combat the devaluing of other people.

I really like the plot idea, it’s a unique concept. But I think the chemistry between Reese and Benny didn’t do it for me. Benny didn’t feel 3D. He was so cute, kind, and all, but it also felt like he was programmed to be nice.

Reese is nice and she has her own problems. I actually like her layers, but she used her insecurities as a shield and then, there wasn’t a moment she actually overcame them? I think the ending was a bit rushed in that sense.

I still think it was a good book and sweet. And the writing was also great.
