Rema was saved by the rebels and taken to a fortress hidden high within the mountains. There, her true identity is discovered and she begins training in preparation to lead her people, while Darmik spends weeks searching for her. During his time hunting her, his loyalty to his father begins to waver, and he starts to question whether or not Rema would be a better ruler. Meanwhile, back at the castle, an Emperion assassin arrives at Greenwood Island, pressuring Darmik to find Rema before the assassin can. When Darmik and Rema reunite, there is no doubt in his mind that Rema is not only the love of his life, but also his queen. It wouldn't be a True Reign book if Jennifer Anne Davis didn't leave us on a cliff hanger, so it was no surprise when Rema suddenly went missing and practically everyone in the kingdom embarked on a nationwide search for her.
This book really highlighted Rema's personal growth; she was no longer the helpless, imprisoned girl, but rather a warrior and a queen. She treated everyone with kindness, even though there were some *cough cough* Savenek *cough cough* who didn't deserve it. Speaking of Savenek, he was by far the worst "good guy" I've ever read about. He was sexist, disrespectful, and so incredibly entitled. I don't know how this kid thought that Rema could possibly love him when literally a day before he called her a "stupid woman". He sucked, but I think that his character actually made the story better by adding some delicious drama.

Great follow up to the Key, this series is addictive!
True Reign starts right where we left off and it's non-stop action, adventure, and romance from there on out. There's another cliffhanger at the end, so be sure to have book 3 handy. My only complaint is that I wish this book was longer, I want more!

This series is mindblowingly good.

Okay, so Red picks up right where The Key left off. Just so you know I was praying to baby jesus about that damn cliffhanger until I got to this book. OMG I'm so happy with the beginning though. It was so freaking intense that I was sweating so much from being nervous.

The one thing that I'm not happy with is Rema. Like why did it take her so long for her to figure out who the hell she was?!? Well, she didn't even figure it out.. someone had to spell it out for her. It was driving me nuts and I was so frustrated with her not piecing the clues together. Then to just frustrate me more, she just automatically accepts her new position and lifestyle. I'm sorry - but what? First it takes you like 84 years to learn about this whole thing.. and then like .25 milliseconds to just accept it?

Other than that, I loved this book. I loved it so freaking much that I can't wait to read the third book. The romance part was so good - even though it "tried" to hint at a damn love triangle. This book definitely had some flaws but it was easily enjoyable and definitely a page turner.

Finally marked DNF almost three years later. May go back and re-read the first book before trying to read this one again.

4.5 I enjoyed this book a lot more than the first. Even though it was shorter it felt like it flowed better. The characters are great drawing you into their journey and making you invested in the outcome. Wish it was longer. Oh the only other thing is the bloody cliff hangers in these books
