Orphan Monster Spy

3.76 AVERAGE

I am a huge fan of historical fiction, particularly WW2 fiction. I really enjoyed this book which follows a young Jewish girl who is sent to a Nazi boarding school to spy on the students. She is sent to the school to befriend one of the girls whose father is a scientist working on a bomb and Sarah needs to find out his secrets.

I was hooked from the start with this book. I liked the characters and thought that the plot was an interesting idea and unlike other WW2 books, I have read. I liked the writing and found that it kept me entertained throughout. Reading this it felt as if the author had done a lot of research which made the story feel a lot more realistic.

I am looking forward to reading more from this author in the future. I believe there is going to be a sequel to this book which I can't wait to pick up.

15-year-old Jewish girl, Sarah has recently lost her mother. She is attempting to leave Austria before the Germans discover her. She runs into a British Spy, on the verge of being caught. They decided to help each other out and Sarah finds herself undercover at a German boarding school, where the daughters of Nazi soldiers attend. It is up to her to gain access to one of the German scientists houses by befriending his daughter in order to discover the secrets he has hidden there.

I found this to be very average. I wasn't invested in the story and didn't care about what happened to any of the characters. You can tell that the author did a lot of research when writing this story, but I just found myself bored. I seem to hold an unpopular opinion here, so I don't know if I just wasn't in the mood for a story like this or what... but it just wasn't for me.

Wow!

Admittedly, what caught my attention of this book was the beautiful front cover, there's something about it that made it really stand out.

The plot itself is interesting, it's about a Jewish girl who is undercover as spy at a Nazi boarding school. I really enjoyed this concept, especially since I've enjoyed learning about Germany under Nazism in school previously.

I adored the personality of the main character too, her strength had me impressed!

Throughout the book, there were a few words/pharses in German that weren't translated, it wasn't much of an issue since I could easily look it up myself. I've definitely learnt some new phrases through.

Overall, I loved how it got my heart pounding! I highly recommend this book.

The plot is interesting but the writing is just painful
