Started reading on a whim due to friend's mention of Weimar period literature and finding this randomly. Loved the experience; reading this felt like being back in school again and reading these more analytical texts for lit class. I should read more nonfiction that's in this vein of academically published work. The book itself is jam packed full of information for someone who knows close to nothing about this time period and associated artistic movements, to provide a whole picture and then some surrounding Auden and Isherwood's work in relation to their time in Berlin. I came out with an interest to read all the mentioned secondary sources with too little available time to delve deep into all of the different topics- the works of the authors mentioned and their close contemporaries, the works of classic film and film stars of the time, the progress queer history and modern conventionally-held beliefs regarding sexuality, historical context of Germany from pre-WWI to after WWII, etc., just SO so many fascinating tangents I'm glad to have gotten tidbits about here.
