I’m obsessed.

I was hesitant to read this because my dad had recently had a stroke. (He’s doing very well). I was afraid it would touch too close to home given the synopsis about the MC losing her father. If anything, it made me more aware of what Hanna may have been feeling and thinking.

This book is such a fun and wild ride. I was really excited about the Nordic mythology aspect and reading something different. Karina creates vivid imagery in a way that is just gorgeous and undeniable. I could see it all.

I couldn’t stop thinking about this book and read it quickly. I absolutely had to find out where this story was going. She kept me guessing and intrigued with just the right amount of familiarity and romance tropes.

Hanna is such an interesting character and I can’t seem to figure her out, which I love. I feel like I shouldn’t like the MMC Rasmus but I DO so much!

I can’t wait to read more of Karina’s books. She’s an insta-buy for me for sure.

Great story and spice. But the first and second half of the book feel like completely different novels in both theme and tone. It caused a bit of whiplash that kept me guessing and surprised which is nice but some of the second half’s themes and jokes were juvenile and somewhat undid the magic and lore that were so carefully built up in the first half. Rushed perhaps?
That being said, I enjoyed both halves even though they feel like different books.

Interesting world-building, lots of less-typical mythology which is great to see. Much heavier on the adventure than the romance.

Caveat emptor, the series is NOT complete despite what Amazon may say, in case you only read finished series.

DID NOT FINISH: 15%

Could not stand the mfc internal dialogue constantly repeating itself over and over rather than the plot advancing

just ok after page 200

Author really likes the words “primal” and “primordial”. Characters are flat. The young shaman at the beginning is like a badly written bard who doesn’t sing. Was a slog till page 206, and after that it was just okay.

Lots of pop culture references by main character felt odd and distracting. Ends on cliffhanger.

not great writing but Finnish mythology is interesting! ends on a massive cliffhanger and I feel like not that much actually happened in book 1
