I have become bad at writing reviews at once. I wanted to review this one because it was about Finnish mythology (though I am still confused, is the Finnish underworld the underworld of the world because it was meant out to be that?)

Hanna comes back for her dad's funeral, but something is not wrong and she goes to the underworld to find her dad. She knows nothing. Totally lost. She trusts a shaman, who, yeah I know who he must be...

But the whole thing builds up to her meeting death. Him being an ass, and they then boinking like rabbits. At the end he seems very vulnerable and she, oh girl, yeah not a cool move. Now I do not root for you. But then again a bit Stockholm syndrome over the whole thing too. Also very Psyche and Eros vibe, beauty and the beast and so on.

Danger, smexing and a very dark place. Not somewhere I want to visit.

I listened to the audio and if you are from Finland you know, the intonation is not at the right places. She made Finnish words and names sound softer. But still a good narrator, Finnish is just hard

More of a 3.5, but rounding up because I liked the cliffhanger at the end.

Overall, this was an enjoyable read. We have a sassy MC, a beautiful God, and a fun storyline. Was it predictable? Yes. Could the sex have been better? Yes. Are either of those going to stop me from reading the second book? No.

I’m interested to see where the story goes now that the current plan is being reshaped.

First 50% was good. But it slowly very slowly goes downhill and get more cliche and cringe.

Emotional intimacy who? Haven’t seen her.

It was fun to read a fantasy/romance with a Finnish inspiration. It was something different I haven’t read before.

The premise was interesting and as fantasy romances go the world building was much stronger than most.

The spice was spicing.

My only gripe was the MC was a little bit on the irritating side and I feel like it might get worse in book two. I’m in two minds about not finishing the series. I think if I leave it too long I’ll lose interest

For reference I finished this book less than two hours from when I started it, soo.....

A different and fun read!

I went into this expecting to like it, but I really loved and enjoyed it! Hanna and her journey were really different and added just the right amount of fantasy to my romance. I can’t wait for book 2!

A brand new series that thrust us into a dark, magical world steeped in Finish folklore! It's exciting, full of delicious darkness and the lore is so interesting and the world the author as painted is a new favorite that I just want to devour. Hannah might have been born in Finland but she spent most of her life in California with her mother, forever missing her beloved father and never feelig like she truly fits in or comfortable in her own skin. When she finds out her father had died she rushes back to Finland, devasted. However as soon as she lands things are weird, like crazy weird. That strangeness gets worse when a strange man claims her father might still be alive and she could save him. She has no idea what she is getting herself into, how it will change her and the sacrifices she will make for the father the loves above all else. And Death, hello, freaking Death is one hot piece of a contradiction. The things he makes her feel are at odds with her desire to flee at the first opportunity. It's so freaking awesome, and hot! I'm heading straight into the next one!
adventurous dark emotional tense medium-paced

Enjoyed the Finnish mythology, which I know nothing about. Enjoyed the first half with Hanna, her grief and the trip to the underworld. Unfortunately found Death quite boring.

I admittedly know very little about Finish mythology, but this was pretty cool. It was a lot darker with a lot more creatures and lore than I was expecting.
