Finally got to start the series... which is torture since it is not completed. Hanna has received news her father has died... but has he really?! There are shamans, mermaids, ghosts, deer skulls, really ugly unicorns... Then there's Death. A stupidly handsome man who claims to have Hanna's father. To save him, Hanna trades herself for him. Her father is a powerful shaman. Hanna had no knowledge of this so there's tons of secrets. It ends in a cliffhanger... book 2 is released and Karina has promised to released book 3 here soon. Now the question is... how much of a masochist do I want to be by reading book 2 and waiting anxiously for book 3?!
I loved this book! Once I started reading, it was like I couldn't stop. I finished it and was immediately looking forward to the next book. I plan to write a more fleshed out review on my blog soon but I had to get my first thoughts out there!
I really loved it! Great world building without being too detailed and political. I felt like I was there. Really enjoyed the pieces of Finnish folklore. Way spicier than I was expecting too.

River of Shadows is very great start to the Underworld Gods series. Before I started this book I was hoping for it to be a stand-alone, but after finishing it I am extremely excited that we will get more books. I am a huge fan of fantasy romance novels and it being based on Finnish mythology is the icing on the cake. The story was fast-paced which I loved, because there was no moment that left me bored. I was invested in the story an was excited to see how everything would unfold. The main character Hannah has a great personality and I clicked with her right away.
“I don’t even have to ask. You just give it to me, begging for me to take you anyway that I can. You want to be consumed, little bird. You want your feathers plucked, your wings clipped.”
The mystery around Tuoni, the God of Death was phenomenal, I was so curious and obsessed with him. The chemistry between the main characters was super hot. I couldn't get enough of their interaction. This book had a great balance between romance, fantasy, action, humor, and eroticism. The writing was easy to read and had a great flow. I especially loved the world Karina has created for this series. The ending of River of Shadows has me super excited for the next book, so I can't wait for Crown of Crimson to release this spring!

Daddy Death will have you swooning in this beauty and the beast/Persephone and Hades type tale. I loved that it was based on Finnish mythology, so the world building had some unique characteristics. The FMM is your average modern gal and I LOVE a super relatable lead character. We were definitely vibing.
River of Shadows is fast paced and doesn’t have any dull moments. I can’t wait to jump into the next book! I’m rooting for the new Goddess of Death, and for the secrets to be unveiled!
