Some funny moments but the female lead felt weak, a lot of “huh/wtf” moments, I didn’t really agree with the male lead at times and there were some modern day pop culture references that I didn’t like (eg references to tiktok if I remember correctly)
challenging tense medium-paced

Beginning was boring but the end got good

This book was good! I thought it was a quick, fun read with likable characters and an interesting plot. I loved all of the Finnish mythology in this book, I loved reading about it and learning more about it. Especially because Finnish mythology isn’t something I knew a lot about prior to reading this book since I don’t see it in books a lot. The setting of this book was in the underworld of Tuolena and I was getting serious gothic vibes while reading it. Hanna was a really fun character. I liked her personality a lot and felt that she was super relatable. I liked Death too (never thought I would say that) he was the typical brooding love interest but he was also kind of gentle and sweet which I thought was adorable. However…I didn’t feel a super strong connection between Hanna and Death. I felt that it took too long for the story to really start and by the time their relationship started to develop the book was over. Overall though, I enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the next book in the series!

If you’re looking for a new Hades and Persephone retelling, this may be for you!

The beginning was so promising with beautiful world building and an incorporation of Finnish mythology, I had high hopes.

I did feel a bit disappointed with the characters and relationships falling flat for me and the pop culture references did take me out of the story a few times.

I will pick the next one up as I’m curious to see where it goes!

I need more spooky cryptid folklore in my life. This nearly hit the spot. Others bring up the modern touches as anachronisms but I liked them. Cliff hanger tho!! It goes directly into the second book. Don't try to read them separately.
