I really liked this dark(ish) retelling of Death and The Maiden within Finnish mythology. It’s one of the first fantasy romance books I finished and actually enjoyed. Karina Halle is a wondrous author—I’m so glad I finally got around to reading this!

This was a very unique,Finnish folklore inspired beauty and the beast retelling. I appreciated that the main character never developed Stockholm syndrome and didn’t fall in love with the beast. The main character remains rightfully distrustful of him, but there is still some kind of connection between the two of them.

My favorite parts of the book occurred before the main character even got to Death’s castle. The world building was very extravagant and incorporated a lot of fun traditional folklore elements. Most characters had fascinating or fun personality quirks which really enhanced the book.

Well, the covers are pretty. The concept of Finnish mythology is great. Execution? Not so much…

Was this supposed to be a watt pad? Bc it was juvenile, annoying, and the pop culture references were obnoxious.

Plot? What plot?
Romance? Nah- let’s just hate bang & fall in lust.
