100% redeems the Allegiant ending. Four is just as good as Divergent and offers insight into such a complex character.

Fantastic book, I enjoyed it very much.
I really hope that the rest of the Divergent series will be as good or better.

“How is it possible to live the same story twice, from different vantage points?” – Four

Four: A Divergent Collection is [a:Veronica Roth|4039811|Veronica Roth|https://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1363910238p2/4039811.jpg]’s take on the Divergent world from Four’s point of view. This collection of novellas take place prior to Tobias’ transfer, during his initiation and during Tris’ initiation.

I did not expect to like this collection because I was not a fan of Four’s perspective in Allegiant. I found him annoying, whiny and not at all like the character I had originally come to love in Divergent and Insurgent.

Due to these slightly lowered expectations, I was pleasantly surprised with how much I liked these novellas. They weren’t perfect, but I really enjoyed seeing Tobias’ experience before Tris came into his life, because he is obviously a lot more than Tris’ boyfriend.

I found Roth’s writing to be consistent with Divergent and Insurgent, but not with Allegiant. The events lined up nicely with the plots and information we know from Divergent, and I didn’t find any plot holes that arose from the new information we learned from Four’s perspective (though I wasn’t actively looking for plot holes).

Reading these stories had little added value to the world. I didn’t feel like I learned more about the series that was pivotal or exciting to know. Seeing more than just Tobias’ point of view to some things we already saw through Tris’ eyes was enjoyable, but not necessary. You’re not reading this book because you want more out of the story, you’re really only reading these stories for the love of Four.

Overall, if you enjoyed the Divergent world, and want more from it, go ahead and read Four. If you’re expecting this enriching the Divergent world, I wouldn’t get your hopes up.

I was bored by this book. Everything in here didn't need to exist, half of it was exposition we were told in Divergent, and the other half was utterly meaningless. Maybe if I was a big Four fan, I'd be happier, but I didn’t enjoy this one whatsoever.
