When I tell you I am so mad I did not read this sooner, I mean it. This has been sitting on my shelf way too long & I am so happy I finally picked this up to read.
I could not put this down, at all. This was so much more than I went into it expecting. I absolutely loved the banter between the FMC and MMC and that entire dynamic and how it played out. š
This would make one heck of a rated R movie & I would watch it instantly. Please make this a movie! šš«¶
I laughed out loud and enjoyed every single second of this book. Itās dark romance but it isnāt as dark as youād go in thinking.
Do read the trigger warnings though just in case.

Idk what possessed me to give this 4ā a year ago, but rereading it now? Nah. That āwell-manicured triangle of hairā line ruined it for me š. The whole must-have-sex-every-second thing just feels ridiculous, and honestly not for me. Maybe people in their mid/late 20s will vibe, but Iām almost 21 and just found it weird. Disappointed bc I loved it the first time š.

Iām probably closer to a 3.75 on this one. I did not hate it. I donāt typically read ādarkā romance. I can do a normally gray character and plot, but itās not my top choice of what to read. But this was for bookclub. So on I pushed.
I think that a lot of what worked for me in this one actually had a lot to do with setting and side characters. Iām a slut for a medical drama (currently binging ER) so I ate that up. Trauma nurse, Iām in. I liked the other nurses, I liked Tyler, I even liked the mob stuff.
Now most of what did not work for me with this one was centered around the main characters. Both of them. Aly annoyed me because she kept talking about how being a trauma nurse gave her a sense of what is safe and what is not. Girl, if that was true, this book doesnāt happen. So I was willing to let that go. But a lot of her talking about kink did not work for me. It sounded (and this is no shade) like the author wanted to talk about and say kink as much as possible. It almost gave SEO. Like it was very repetitive. She also repeated phrases like ālizard brain,ā and āI shouldnāt like thisā a lot. Itās a stylistic choice, and I probably wouldnāt notice if I was more into this conceptually. I also did not love Josh, though I did like him more. I liked his backstory, I think that the family of bad people can be fetishized a lot. But you do wonder about them. I think that this is a reminder that theyāre people who deserve privacy and they arenāt the sins of their family members. Iām glad the book painted true crime as the scourge it is. That said, I donāt know that the stalking worked for me. If it had been a touch less invasive (yes I know that kinda defeats the purpose), I may not have minded as much. But watching her at work was wild. Buying the flower shop out was wild. You have to suspend a lot of belief to believe that he is doing all that. The Tyler explanation helped some, but still.
Finally, I was cool with the accidental murder. It worked for me. The coverup worked for me. I didnāt love how they killed himātoo easyā but I liked it. I think I would have loved it if the writing was better. I think thatās a lot of what it comes down to for me. It wasnāt poorly written, just mid. And sometimes you gotta read mid. Will I read the sequel?? Not if I have to buy it. But if itās available from the library in a reasonable amount of time, Iāll tap in.

The audio version makes this book 10x better. Was LIVING for every moment, the banter was top tier!! Especially loved that in both Josh and Aly you see their confidence, protectiveness, and love for each other while also getting insight to their insecurities.
