When I tell you I am so mad I did not read this sooner, I mean it. This has been sitting on my shelf way too long & I am so happy I finally picked this up to read.

I could not put this down, at all. This was so much more than I went into it expecting. I absolutely loved the banter between the FMC and MMC and that entire dynamic and how it played out. šŸ˜

This would make one heck of a rated R movie & I would watch it instantly. Please make this a movie! šŸ˜‚šŸ«¶

I laughed out loud and enjoyed every single second of this book. It’s dark romance but it isn’t as dark as you’d go in thinking.

Do read the trigger warnings though just in case.

Idk what possessed me to give this 4⭐ a year ago, but rereading it now? Nah. That ā€œwell-manicured triangle of hairā€ line ruined it for me 😭. The whole must-have-sex-every-second thing just feels ridiculous, and honestly not for me. Maybe people in their mid/late 20s will vibe, but I’m almost 21 and just found it weird. Disappointed bc I loved it the first time šŸ’”.

I’m probably closer to a 3.75 on this one. I did not hate it. I don’t typically read ā€œdarkā€ romance. I can do a normally gray character and plot, but it’s not my top choice of what to read. But this was for bookclub. So on I pushed.

I think that a lot of what worked for me in this one actually had a lot to do with setting and side characters. I’m a slut for a medical drama (currently binging ER) so I ate that up. Trauma nurse, I’m in. I liked the other nurses, I liked Tyler, I even liked the mob stuff.

Now most of what did not work for me with this one was centered around the main characters. Both of them. Aly annoyed me because she kept talking about how being a trauma nurse gave her a sense of what is safe and what is not. Girl, if that was true, this book doesn’t happen. So I was willing to let that go. But a lot of her talking about kink did not work for me. It sounded (and this is no shade) like the author wanted to talk about and say kink as much as possible. It almost gave SEO. Like it was very repetitive. She also repeated phrases like ā€œlizard brain,ā€ and ā€œI shouldn’t like thisā€ a lot. It’s a stylistic choice, and I probably wouldn’t notice if I was more into this conceptually. I also did not love Josh, though I did like him more. I liked his backstory, I think that the family of bad people can be fetishized a lot. But you do wonder about them. I think that this is a reminder that they’re people who deserve privacy and they aren’t the sins of their family members. I’m glad the book painted true crime as the scourge it is. That said, I don’t know that the stalking worked for me. If it had been a touch less invasive (yes I know that kinda defeats the purpose), I may not have minded as much. But watching her at work was wild. Buying the flower shop out was wild. You have to suspend a lot of belief to believe that he is doing all that. The Tyler explanation helped some, but still.

Finally, I was cool with the accidental murder. It worked for me. The coverup worked for me. I didn’t love how they killed him—too easy— but I liked it.
I think I would have loved it if the writing was better. I think that’s a lot of what it comes down to for me. It wasn’t poorly written, just mid. And sometimes you gotta read mid. Will I read the sequel?? Not if I have to buy it. But if it’s available from the library in a reasonable amount of time, I’ll tap in.

it's gonna be a no from me personally dog

The audio version makes this book 10x better. Was LIVING for every moment, the banter was top tier!! Especially loved that in both Josh and Aly you see their confidence, protectiveness, and love for each other while also getting insight to their insecurities.
