The Host by Stephanie Meyer is a story about an alien invasion. Unlike the popular novels and short stories of the 19th and 20th centuries, these aliens are not hostile (mostly). They are just trying to change the character of the human race by taking over their minds. The invasion begins discreetly and then moves into full force for a while. At the time the story takes place, the main invasion is over and the aliens are just mopping up the remnants of the free humans. We follow the story of Wanderer, an alien, as she is implanted into a human body. For a month or two things are normal. However, Wanderer soon starts hearing the voice of her human host, who is supposed to be dead. She goes against the advice of a counselor and follows the directions until she finds a cave filled with human survivors. She is faced with an ultimatum: either betray the humans or join them. Neither option seems very appealing, but she eventually defects to the human side and helps them remove aliens and get supplies.
The Host by the same author of the Twilight series is a very interesting twist on the common theme of alien invasion and takeover. This book would be of interest to science fiction fans and basically anyone who is interested in a good book. It really goes into the theme of someone literally being in someone else’s shoes. Read the whole book to find out how Wanderer copes with immersing herself in the human survivalist colony.

Honestly I was enjoying the story until Stephanie went full Mormon and had a second grown ass man be cool with dating a child’s body.

I'm ready to make some enemies with this blog post, so bring on the negative comments! :)Stephenie Meyer needs an editor who isn't afraid to say, "Hey! This is 200 pages too long--cut the crap!" I'm sorry. I just really don't enjoy reading Meyer's books. However, I'm thankful that she gets kids reading. This year I had almost every starter on the basketball team reading the Twilight series and I thought it was wonderful. But, whoa, her books bore me. I'm not a fan of soap operas. Ahhh, the drama! Will she or won't she? Which man will she choose? The host is Meyer's first adult book, although it could have been published as young adult. She's the queen of "clean" lit, and I admire her for that. At least there's a lot of kissing in this book, but it's still squeaky clean, and I'm not sure how that happens when there are thirty adults living underground together. But Melanie's body is invaded by the Wanderer. The Wanderer is an alien who survives by sucking into the brain of a host. But Melanie is strong and rebels, so there are two women inside the brain of one body. The Wanderer, or Wanda, gives into Melanie and they go find a group of rebel humans in the desert. Of course, the man drama is that Ian loves Wanda and Jared loves Melanie, but they are both in the same body. What to do?I knew I had to read this. But that doesn't mean I have to like it.
i like the host more than twilight saga. it was very amusing, not just a love story between vampire-human-werewolf with a little action. it was about humanity, and attitude towards other creatures.
This was one of my favorite books when it came out in 2008 and it’s still one of my favorite books in 2022. Stephanie Meyer does an amazing job at world-building, but even more, she does an impeccable job of making you feel for the characters and also realize what it is that makes you human. Truly a fantastic read.

It's not surprising, but satisfying, to know her other writing can be as good, and compelling, as her Twilight saga. I look forward to more by Stephenie Meyer.
