A classic story that really does a great job of capturing the magic of childhood. I was surprised at times at a few of the detours into random things not truly kid oriented, but I was very impressed with the language and diction and how often I thought to myself "Wow, what a great sentence!" Peter Pan will always represent that childish idea that life can stay as one big game of pretend and that nobody ever has to grown up, and I find it appropriate that Peter Pan never has to stop being that no matter how many generations of "Wendys" come and go.

I've always been in love with the idea of Neverland, ever since I discovered it. I've seen shows based on Peter Pan, I saw movies based on Peter Pan and of course I read stories based on Peter Pan. But for some reason, I had never read the original. Time to change that!

And the original story did not disappoint at all. I think that during the first read I didn't even comprehend half of the deeper meanings that can be found behind the stories and the characters. That's partly because the language and use of English is a little outdated and therefore not always easy to read, but it's also partly because it's so easy to lose yourself in the fantasy and adventurous elements of the story.

Because I can imagine how amazing it must be to have your parents read you this story or to read this story to your children. It has a lot of amazing elements that tickle the imagination beyond its capacity and the book easily takes your hand to let you go with them on their grand adventure, which is enhanced by the writing style and the outside standing narrator.

A thing that really surprised me in a good way was that the characters were a lot less black and white than I had expected. It's weird how you form an opinion on a book based on assumptions and how it manages to smash it then. Hook, Peter, Wendy and all the lost boys...they were not all good and not all bad. They had either redeeming qualities or irritating characteristics. Which was a very nice discovery!

So, even though at times it's very clear that the story is written in another time, it was quite an enjoyable read that I'll happily repeat in the future. I also really appreciated the thought provoking questions and game suggestions added to this edition! And I loved the background on the used mythology given in the back. If my cousin ever wants to use this book for an English bookreport, those will be very helpful for her!
