And thus it will go on, so long as children are gay and innocent and heartless.

To read this merely as a children’s book does not do it justice. Even though born in 2000, I grew up watching the 1953 version on VHS over and over again and the discrepancy between the two versions feels like a perfect illustration for the point the story is making about growing up. Reading it back makes me want to both be young again as well as to apologize to my mother.

I really did not enjoy this book. It’s really very dark; conditions are bad in Neverland – frequently no food, everyone sleeping in one bed, their clothes in tatters. And they are subject to terror – pirates and redskins, not to mention mermaids and the beasts of the forest. All that being said, I was bored.

I never read it as a child, and I am certain that I would not have enjoyed having it read to me as a child. (Although I did enjoy watching the TV special airing of the play starring Mary Martin.) Maybe the problem is that I, like Wendy at the end, have grown up.

3.5 stars

This was a lovely and beautiful children's book though I found the language difficult at times; probably because it wqs written in 1911. The overuse of the word 'gay' was also quite annyoing at times, but anyhow the story was quick and beautiful.

“To die will be an awfully big adventure.”

Aghhhhhh. My heart. What a tender, tragic story that is also a blast at the same time. The writing was captivating and funny. I was grinning from ear to ear reading this!

Peter Pan is one of my favorite characters. He is selfish, forgetful, fascinating, and wild. But he also has a heart (sometimes). After all, he is just a little boy. He has had and will have adventures that we will never be able to dream of, yet he will never experience the adventure of growing up.

I am going to go watch the 2003 live action Peter Pan for the 1,000,000th time and cry my eyes out. (Jeremy Sumpter/Peter Pan was my first crush).

I love Peter Pan he is my super hero he reminds me what is important in life no other fairy tale can do that. We are all 10 year old kids inside,so Cinderella can go on living happily ever after as for me i'll be happy visiting Neverland every once in awhile.

TIL that fairies like to have orgies and lost boys like to commit murder. Was prepared for a weird Edwardian book but don’t know how to feel about what I just read.
