Duvidei seriamente quando me disseram que esse era um daqueles livros que não se consegue largar até terminar a leitura. E olha, é EXATAMENTE isso que acontece. É impossível parar de ler.

A narrativa é extremamente viciante.

Can't say a lot of the language aged well in this book but the story is even more relevant in this social media/content creation age than it was the book was written. The main character was kind of shitty but I guess that was kind of the point so I'll let it pass.

This work is nothing short of genius; The Running Man is a a masterwork of the dystopian genre which should be more widely regarded. King writes with a conviction and confidence which enables his characters to truly live in his work, and become four-dimensional figures readers inevitably believe in.
Nevertheless, problematic rhetoric remains across King’s body of work. Wholly unnecessary use of slurs and derogatory remarks cheapen his skill immensely, and glare obtrusively to any intelligent reader.

Protagonist Ben Richards battles against an omnipotent capitalism propelled through violent reality television, an ouroboros style escape for both victim and perpetrator. Richard attempts the Running Man contest with little choice, as society in the distant future of 2025 has broken down into marked class segregation, ensuring the poorest members of our society are perpetually slummed. His valiant attempt to earn some cash for his terminal family unit symbolically and physically races against ‘Hunters’ in a thirty-day game of hide and seek without bounds: the cost of losing, his life. His story elucidates a vicious attempt of social mobility, and draws a conclusion to a zero sum gain in the wake of global, omnipresent capitalism. His companions, or rather accomplices, highlight harsh insights into the class structure, as he journeys from the slums, to middlemen, white-collar, and finally the untouchable elite. Each companion provides their own insight into the zeitgeist Richards battles against, and moulds the final act of triumph, to free him from the shackles of his corporate master. References to historical incident of mortality only further cement this idea, and broaden the vista of this dystopian reality.
In a nod to Marx’s famous declaration against capital systems, King leaves his readers with this message: the only true freedom we may know from struggle is morbidly in death. “You have nothing to lose but your chains!”
