This story is very cute. It seems to be friends to lovers but also has rivals within it.
I’m enjoying the fact the main character just wants a soulmate. It’s an interesting take on not just a girl who wants a relationship and is boy crazy. She wants someone that is the one and that’s very relatable. I enjoy the slight drama of everything because there are of course misunderstandings within some of her relationships (friendships and more maybe) and the so far we have two main guys who are trying for the attention of the main character. I have an opinion on who I want her to end up with but with this one I’m not assuming who she will end up with. The way each character is written is great because you can go from being like i don’t know about this person to genuinely hoping for the best for them.

Can’t not wait for volume 2

I love that the author snuck little cameos of waiting for spring into this.

Yuuki is a college student who just wants to find her soulmate. A bit desperate, she goes to a club with her friend. The night doesn't go as planned and Yuuki is stuck taking care of a flashy, kind of intimidating drunk guy. Despite the terrible first impression, Iori turns out to actually be a nice, reliable guy and he offers to help Yuuki find her soulmate as repayment for taking care of him.

The dynamics are very similar to waiting for spring like the unexpected friend and the childhood friend coming back. But it still felt like it's own thing. It also feels like the author has really improved their craft. The story telling and art just feel cleaner. I'm loving the build up of the relationship and I can't wait to see the messy drama that unfolds with this soon to be love triangle. I really liked this.

Favorite Romance Manga series to date?

I think so!

5/5 estrellas

You can find this review of How I Met My Soulmate on my blog, Heart's Content!

Received an ARC from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review! Thank you!

God, mangas are some of the biggest part of my young adulthood. The amount of time I spent with my eyes glued to my laptop screen, (and then when I got a phone) to my phone are immeasurable. Going back to manhwas and mangas are truly like taking a stroll down a path I’ve long loved and walked many times before.

How I Met My Soulmate really stood out to me when I read about it. The thing with the blurbs of most mangas is often that they seem really simple, or sometimes a little bizarre. But the pages within the book are always filled with so much more heart, emotion and love that one would assume. I am to date yet to read a blurb that has done justice to the manga within.

From the first page, I found Yuuki extremely relatable. That quiet loneliness she speaks of, that yearning in search for someone, but the general helplessness of it all mixed with the inherent resistance to do something out of your comfort zone. I’d like to think, like me, many will relate to the way Yuuki was written. I love that the author chose to let Yuuki figure herself out slowly, with both caution and innocence. Sometimes really wanting something isn’t all you need; a lot of thought, contemplation and experience has to be paired with it. The author has done a good job portraying that playing out subtly.

I’ve never had any complaints about the illustration before in a manga and HIMMS is no different. Each line is confident and all the translations are perfect. There’s a thoughtful little glossary at the end that was so helpful. The manga could’ve very well have done without it, but adding it just makes you feel closer to the culture where the story takes place.

I loved watching the hero’s (who I’m not going to name because I think you should join Yuuki in her journey of finding the person she truly feels for) personality unravel slowly to reveal who he really is. I know first impressions matter, but I love how this manga speaks more than just once about how not everything is as it immediately appears and it’s nice to be open to that option at times. Or even if not that, at least whoever you really are will shine through no matter what. I felt so much warmth and emotion reading the scenes the hero appears in and it took me a bit initially to place him, but truly with time he has the softest corner of my heart reserved for him.

I wasn’t sure what I was expecting going into this manga, but it’s so sweet and it touched me in a spot I realized I hadn’t yet healed and warmed it right up so I didn’t feel any pain. Even if I sniffled a little bit.

Five heartwarming stars. I can’t wait for volume 2. This author has also written another series called Waiting for Spring, if you wish to read a fully completed manga series. Happy reading!
