I've had this since seeing her speak last year, and waited because I assumed it would be very similar to her lecture. I was right, BUT there's a lot more, too! She really is a badass and too polite, wow.
One of the best celebrity memoirs I’ve read in years. Geena Davis is fiercely funny and true to herself - I highly recommend listening to her narrate the audiobook if you can.

I liked this, but didn't love it for some reason- it was full of intimate information but somehow never felt intimate. It felt like she was telling me a story instead of reading me her memoir, if that makes sense- like there was still a layer of holding back/presenting it just so rather than rawness and realness. I still love Geena Davis as an actor and it did have me hankering to watch some of her greatest hits again! I also loved how she called out Susan Sarandon for her self-assuredness and badd-assery, and Bill Murray for being a huge asshole. It's always fun to learn how people *actually* act as opposed to their public personas.
This book started out slowly for me. She definitely had an unusual childhood, but I felt like it spent too much time there. I enjoyed the part of the book that focused more on her career and learning about the different movies and how she got the parts and what it was like to film them and the different personalities of her costars. I loved hearing more about her archery career too! Overall it was an enjoyable memoir.
4.5 stars. I enjoyed this fantastic memoir so much more than I expected to! I have long been a Geena Davis fan, and am even more so now. She is hard working, down to earth, and quietly hilarious. The audio is great, and I absolutely fell in love with her sweet, elderly parents in her reading of their voices. I also learned lots about her, such as she is an archery champ and an advocate for gender parity. What an inspiring actress who is really trying to make the world a better place.
She's an fascinating woman and it was enjoyable to hear about her journey. As always, I wished for more - more about archery and her research. I also find it fascinating that she describes somewhat stumbling through life not knowing what was going on, I'm not sure if that's her New England humility or if she was that clueless .
This book was surprisingly good. Highly recommend the audio - w Geena reading. I wish she went into more detail on why some of her relationships/marriages ended (such as Jeff goldblum).
