Geena Davis is one of my most favorites! I first fell in love with her when I saw Thelma & Louise (arguably one of the best feminist movies of our time)and then later in A League of Their Own. I loved hearing about some of the amazing things that happened behind the scenes and fun antidotes with other fellow actors she worked with. What I was most impressed with is her work with the Geena Davis Institute. This woman has been able to show Hollywood how much women and girls are underrepresented in tv shows and movies from Y7 through adult tv but she has the data and research to back it up. Astonishingly, Hollywood was shocked and started listening and are open to her ideas. I also LOVE her voice. Her narration was easy to listen to and I found myself wanting to learn more!

Geena Davis is an incredible actor and human. While I enjoyed her retelling of major milestones in her career and life, it was the messages she shared that had me enjoying this memoir so much and its well told. I like how she handled herself in the industry as a woman dealing with sexual harassment and her growth in owning her worth and standing up for what she wants and won't tolerate. I also love how she blazed a trail for other women and girls and fought for their equality in visibility.

Great account of her major career moments and life milestones, told through the (very effective) lens if learning to care about how other feel less and how she feels more. I thought that journey was the most interesting and relatable anyway. There are honest accounts of her career experiences, and about her personal journey and emotional development, but she doesn’t delve deeply into any personal relationships/marriages/children. I didn’t feel like that was a missing piece though; instead it was a clearly defined boundary of what she was and wasn’t willing to share. The development of her career in recent years was particularly interesting, I had no idea about the work she was doing, and it’s amazing!
