geena!!!!! if u know me u should know i luv miss geena davis. loved learning more about her projects and personal life and all of the above🤔 she made an even bigger impact than i knew and i love that for her!!
3.5 stars. Geena Davis is smart, funny, and honest, and she sure has a hell of a lot of good stories to tell! And though I enjoyed the book, I didn't find myself connecting with it, with her, as much as I was hoping. Still think she's a badass though!

DEFINITE recommend
I have seen a lot of Geena Davis's movies, but I knew next to nothing about her other than her Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media Foundation.
Well, she is an overly polite New Englander who is a work-in-progress to becoming a badass. I love how the seed of badassery was planted by Susan Sarandon while filming Thelma and Louise.
I loved her adoring and loving relationship with her parents and brother. She discusses her relationships on sets and her personal life. But, she is not gossipy or salacious. The biggest takeaway is that she discusses her kids hardly at all COMPLETELY protecting their privacy.
I thoroughly enjoyed this memoir. Gosh, she is MY kind of people - I would love to have a glass or wine with her!

I love reading a good memoir, but this one was just ok. I think if you are going to write a book about yourself then you need to commit to bearing all. Geena Davis glossed over so much. She has been married multiple times and only lightly touches on it. She talks about a few of her roles and even those lack detail. I liked that she took ownership of some of the seedier things that happened to her in Hollywood. I don't think any person should ever be harassed, but she fully admitted that she just went along with it because she didn't know how not to and it took her a while to find her voice. Overall this book was OK, but could have been better.
If you like Geena Davis (and how could you not? Thelma & Louise, Beetlejuice, A League of Their Own...), this is an entertaining, endearing, and surprisingly relatable memoir! And personally relatable to a tee: I've explicitly worked with my therapist to allow myself to "take up space" and not feel guilt when asking for or simply accepting help. Geena is also full of surprises: who knew she is approaching Olympic-level status in archery, and has actively called attention to and moved the needle on equal representation in media through the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media.
