Backman knows exactly how to get to the deepest cuts of life, and he does it so subtly that you bleed but you don’t die. This second book in the Beartown trilogy is even more devastating than the first book, and that one broke my heart. This Hockey town in Sweden has so many similarities with a small football town in the South that it was almost eerie. Maybe it just proves that it’s the same everywhere, and as he says, people are both good and bad at the same time. I rarely read a sequel right away the first book but I couldn’t stop thinking about this town and these people. However it’s been so emotionally raw reading these two books that I need a break before completing the trilogy. Expect to be changed with any book by Fredrik Backman, but expect the deepest cuts of all in Beartown.

Listened to this for the second time and loved it even more intensely - and laughed louder and cried harder - than the first time, which I hadn't thought possible. I both wish I could live in this fictional place and am so thankful I didn't grow up there. I want to kiss some of these characters, punch some in the eye, and hug some so tightly without ever letting go. Backman and his translation team are genius.

This was a tough read for me. There are a lot of characters- it's like reading a soap opera season.

I read the prequel and the sequel before getting to this one, and stand amazed. This wasn’t an easy book at all, but it was rather profound.
