I love this series and this was good enough but certainly unnecessary. The audiobook is excellent with cool sound effects and a full cast as always with this series, the print (digital only) edition keeps the same fun formatting as the rest of the books.

I'd managed to snag this novella back when I pre-ordered another Kaufman/Kristoff book but had to get a hold of the audiobook when it came out. Given that Memento is the origin story for AIDAN it makes sense that it's even better in audio than written out!

Ahh the audio is so goood!

I always found AIDAN super interesting due to my background in computers and AI programming, and I loved watching the progression from top of the line AI ship defense to the AIDAN we meet in Illuminae.

After listening/reading this I now want to go back and re read the trilogy. Aidan is the modern Hal 9000.

And with this... the Illuminae saga has officially concluded!!

I loved that we got more of a glimpse into AIDAN and how he started to become more <i>human</i>, for lack of a better word. Even if this was short (and I would never say no to more of this world, universe and characters), it was fascinating to meet Olivia as a character, and to literally witness AIDAN becoming the AIDAN we know and love in the main series!!
