This book...was so bad.
Also, apparently, Leo and Percy are friends now. These three books take place before Trials of Apollo, so everyone still thinks he's dead. And during Heroes of Olympus, they didn't like each other, or at least weren't friends. So Percy having a whistle from Leo that was engraved with "Leo+Percy 4ever <3" and Leo being his Spanish tutor made no sense. Now, I can see the two being friends after Leo returns to camp now that they're no longer on their quest, but right now, it makes no sense with the timeline Rick has established.
Finally, I couldn't stand the writing! I know it's middle grade, but the original series wasn't written so...cringe. It was almost as if Rick was trying so hard to write middle grade. All his mythology books read like middle grade, but in a way that was easy to read. This book, however, was just not it.
It pains me to rate a Percy Jackson book so low, but I just don't think it's a good book. The only reason I gave it two stars was because of Percabeth.
Spoiler
First things first, Annabeth seemed so out of character initially. I can't see Annabeth Chase wanting to throw a party at a goddess's house when she, Grover, and Percy are on a quest. As the quest became serious and tensions rose, she seemed to be her normal self. I just found that odd. Also, apparently, Leo and Percy are friends now. i love percy jackson and the whole universe with trails of apollo etc but i find 6&7 are very boring compared to the og percy books amazing universe same nostalgic characters but a lack of adventure and fast paced battle more of a cosy follow up
this took me a long time to get through and that makes me sad to say with how quickly i ingest pjo content. i had fun though, it was a short sweet adventure and sometimes that’s all a book needs to be
