A classic historical marriage-in-trouble “you betrayed me on our wedding day… or did you?” angst fest. I wasn’t sure Westcliffe would suffer enough for me, but by the end he did. Also, an attempted murder at 97%? Fearless. This was my first Lorraine Heath but it won’t be my last.

what a weird book
emotional hopeful reflective tense medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Character

This left a bad taste in my mouth. I stayed because of hate–hate for the plot, the characters, everything about this book.

This book sadly lacks a heroine. She's only there to be a doormat for the hero. Her logic and the ability to feel 'hate' is also non-existent in the entire book. I am utterly convinced she is a furniture and not a human.

I also kept wishing the hero to get some kind of sexual disease, e.g. syphilis. But sadly, lust is the only way the author knows to get a HEA.

2.5 stars, possibly my least favorite lorraine heath?? defs in the bottom 5

Not my fave Lorraine but still has a little 🍌 and was compelling

This was a mostly enjoyable read, but definitely not one of Lorraine Heath's best. I also think it's worth mentioning some content warnings. I've put in spoiler tags just in case:

SpoilerThis book has the death of a dog (old age), as well as a miscarriage.

Westcliff is literally the worst male mc ever. He literally deserves nothing but the worst. I don’t like when the mc sleep with other people and this was like overboard.

I hate him so much.
