While the smut scenes were good, I couldn't get over how inconsiderate and rude Easton was, especially when it involves the mental health of kids. I'm all for an alpha but there was something about him I didn't find appealing.

Some of the timeline didn't work. And you don't have to keep telling us about the trust issues of the main character.

I don’t write reviews often, and I try not to give a star rating below a 4 if I can help it. That said, I’m skipping the star rating and diving in.

FMC is a doormat and the rest of the characters are bulldozers, especially her mother-in-law, her kids and the MMC. Even her best friend is never on her side. FMC is a little whiny and a lot insecure, while the MMC is selfish and inconsiderate. He doesn’t respect the boundaries she tries to set, and he doesn’t consult with her on things such as getting the kids a dog when she’s the one who’ll be taking on the additional responsibility. And he wonders why she tries to push back on every single thing he asks for regarding the kids. But then she always caves.

They never really mature. They don’t really work out their issues. They just decide eventually to be together. Proof that he never learned anything: At the end, he buys a fixer-upper without consulting her. And she doesn’t object? Inconsistent.

Then they decide they’re going to tell two 6-year-olds the man they knew as their father is not their biological father, but nobody ever considers that these grieving children might need therapy and a gentler way to receive this news?

FMC’s best friend has something going on with her and we never find out what it is. Maybe she turns up in another book, but she doesn’t appear to be a love interest in any of the subsequent books.

Overall, it’s a mess.

I read this because one of those Reels of pay as you watch dramas peaked my interest, and a comment suggested that this book was similar to the storyline. It was a somewhat guilty pleasure hockey romance, not really spicey, but a cute book.

It’s bad. Just all around bad.
fast-paced

Narration was good, FMC was absolutely infuriating.

3.5
This book started out odd for me and I wasn’t sure how it was going to go.
I wasn’t a fan of Caro worrying over everything to the point she seems to cave into pressure. I also didn’t like how Easton was with her in the beginning, letting his temper get the best of him, as it seemed out of character with his level headedness. It made me feel as though these characters were more like teenagers than in their mid twenties.
I didn’t like how fickle Caroline and Easton were in their feelings, either. One minute they’re hot for each other the next (mainly Caro) pushing away and acting out.
Honestly I liked Easton, he seemed to get his head on straight much quicker and tried to play by Caroline’s rules, but it just made me feel bad for how she treated him. It felt like he was growing and she was stuck in the mud until the last few chapters.

It seemed that the majority of the book was like this, but eventually it led to a HEA. I normally enjoy this author’s work but this book felt a bit forced and just wasn’t for me.
I will more than likely give the next book in the series a read when it releases.

Tension, Love to hate to love, hockey, parent
emotional hopeful sad fast-paced
Strong character development: No
Loveable characters: Complicated
Diverse cast of characters: N/A

The FMC is rude, whiny, & just unrelenting. There was no grace or understanding while expecting the MMC to give give give. I finished but it was really hard to get past her but she switched it all around at 90% of the way through.

DNF @ 45%. I just couldn’t get into this book. The main characters are constantly bickering, and not in a way that feels like sexual tension or something along those lines. And there are just too many vaguely explicit references to the MC’s sex lives when they were 16 and 17 years old. I am 100% NOT interested in knowing anything about underage characters’ sex lives. Blech.
