what a healing book. ส่งต่อไออุ่นแห่งความหวัง somehow exceeds my already-quite-lofty expectations w/ its multidimensional characters; their complex yet touching relationships w/ one another; focus on the power of food and music; and masterful handling of the themes of family and familial bonds even w/o blood relations that is powerful and emotional, yet neither gratuitous nor manipulative. i also find morimiya particularly interesting w/ surprising depth, and he's now one of my fav literary characters of all time.

while i rly enjoy seo's novel, it can be predictable at times and nevertheless has a number of weaknesses, be it in terms of overall plot points or those that pertain specifically to the thai edition. for the former, the circumstances around yuko's birth father irk me; i simply find it hard to believe that the only way him and yuko couldve communicated was only thru letters, and that he didnt pursue further actions to find her once he was back in japan. rika also got off way too easy w/ her culpability in the whole affair. the subplot of yuko's fight w/ her friends was ??? as well; the others got off too easy imo and she couldve at least tried to explain her side more, tho ig it does illustrate her independent, go-w/-the-flow character. as for the latter, the book couldve massively benefited from more proofreading, as rn it's full of numerous misquotes, confusing spacing and weird line breaks that affect initial understanding of sentences, etc.

even so, all in all i rly enjoy this novel and look forward to reading it again when i need sth that can touch my cold heart.

I watched the movie a while back. I think I prefer the movie. It does certain things better than the book. The story overall is unrealistic. That child (later woman) would have so many issues.

This will be the fourth book in Japanese I've listened to on Audible. However, for the first time, I borrowed a book from the library and listened to it while skimming through the text. It's a good way to study. At first, I thought this book would be uninteresting but it's a family situation that you don't often hear about in Japan so I become more and more curious as the book went on. I haven't read each word carefully by myself so I can't say if it's easy to read, but I think it's easy to understand. It's like an American drama where not much happens yet still keeps you wanting to read more. The narrator was also good. The voices of the characters aren't so distinguished from one another but the timbre her voice is very calm and I liked it.
