There are five million reviews out there. All I really remember is that I liked this book but wasn't blown away by it.

This book is a true crime that reads like a fictional one. Yes, the author did take some liberties with timelines here and there, but when you finish the book and realize (or re-realize) is non-fiction, you love it even more.
You have characters that are so them that they read as fictional pieces of wonders.

This book is a mix of a love letter and a presentation card to SAVANNAH, and I couldn't think of a more fitting homage to such a place. I bought the book in the actual Mercer House, and 1st hand saw most of the places mentioned in it, and that just added an "I don't know what" to the reading experience.

There is a movie and a lot of information online about the case described in the book, I was told so by a friend on my last visit to Savannah, but I wanted to go into the book blind. I searched nothing, and I told myself I was not going to google the movie to envision the characters for myself. The best advice I can give anyone interested in this book.

I will not criticize whether the lifestyles exposed in this book are right or wrong because the book is not about that. Appreciate an almost non-critical storyteller that will help you appreciate the historical cues that made Savannah and its people the way they were when this book was written and the way they are now.

Not a complete 5 because the use of words like nigger or faggot did not go well with me, even when I knew it was to portrait certain characters that in itself portraited a type of people. Aside from that, this is a great crime/site biographical book for someone new to those genres.
