A Mirror Mended by Alix E. Harrow

marginally better than the first, though there's still not enough character development for me personally, and the 'romance' aspect is very underbaked. harrow seems to be a very good writer but maybe not for novellas; i think the story would definitely benefit from being longer

the 'feminism' angle in this series is just so surface-level and reductive in some parts but i was really annoyed by the idea that eva is only worthwhile as a character if she somehow redeemed herself, as if her being a villain makes her less of a woman. there was also such a weird commentary about her age throughout the story that i did not vibe with

I was skeptical about having a sequel but this absolutely proved me wrong. Continuing 48 happily ever afters post the events of the first book, Zinnia has become a fairy tale fixer who has now become sought after by a villain. Eva is a version of the Evil Queen who fears for her life after Snow wakes up from her poisoned sleep. After pulling Zinnia into her world, Eva tries to get her to show her how she can leave her story. This was so different than the first book but it retained the best characters, tropes, and formatting. I love Alix Harrow and this proves officially that I love everything she writes!

I loved this!! The story arc was so great, and I couldn't stop listening to the audiobook. I loved Zin even more in this, and I'm so happy for the characters. Charm and Prim are just absolutely adorable!!

Also, the queer rep was so sweet and I just had so much fun :)

A quick, yet delightfully enjoyable book that develops characters in a way where you're barely even conscious of how little time has past (well, little as compared to a full-length book). A Mirror Mended starts off where A Spindled Splintered left more questions, and shows the main character's evolution with humorous, yet deeply emotional inner-dialogue and character interactions.

Spoilers! Vague, but might give something away about the ending.
While I prefer queer romance where there is a guaranteed happy ending, I didn't find it off-putting when that was not assured here. The constant questioning of life, and knowing that one must die-- something seen heavily in the first book-- was heart-wrenching and beautiful.

Another fun book in this series! I enjoyed how this one broke away from the first with the MC having more experience and then getting into a new fairytale. I'd love to see if there's going to be a next one!

Thank you to Netgalley and Macmillan Audio for an ALC of this book!

A Mirror Mended is a sequel to the earlier novella, A Spindle Splintered. Zinnia's story continues as she hops from fairy tale to fairy tale to help rescue princesses. But this time, instead of another Sleeping Beauty Story, she somehow lands in Snow White--and face to face with the Evil Queen...who might not be as evil as everyone thinks.

I liked this one even better than A Spindle Splintered! I think Zinnia's character was able to develop a lot more in this one and I loved the added elements with the queen and her friends back home.  This is a super quick read but it is definitely worth it. I'm looking forward to more Fractured Fables and more about the worlds that Harrow created!
