It surprised me how much I loved this book! For some reason, the cover made me think it was going to be another superhero chosen-one story, but it wasn’t that at all. Yes, Cleo goes on a quest, but it’s a quest to leave her world’s absolute quarantine in order to save just one person who she believes is in danger. Mind you, the book was written well before COVID, so it felt sort of eerie to be reading a book set in a futuristic world where everyone lived in total and complete quarantine—literally no one ever leaves their own apartment. But when Cleo gets an accidental shipment of life-saving medication, she realizes that the intended recipient might die without it, and she sets off on a dangerous journey into the underbelly of her automated apartment complex. Her robotic companion Yorick adds a fun touch to the story and the story ends up taking many unexpected twists along the way. I think kids today will get a kick out of seeing quarantine taken to an extreme!

Apparently, this novel was started over two years ago. Jake Burt is a psychic, that's all I'm saying. In his novel, a deadly form of influenza struck late in the 21st century. As a result, enormous apartment buildings were built, people were sealed in, and the outside was abandoned. Robots tend the fields and deliver the produce to the buildings, where drones deliver them to each apartment. Surgeons use drones to operate on people. Recreation happens in simulators. It's all very...tidy.

I really enjoyed reading this. Cleo is a great hero, brave and steadfast, determined even when faced with things so far out of her understanding she literally has no words for them. Her side characters are wonderful, too. I like them all, but I think Yorick has to be my favourite, late story twist notwithstanding.

I love this story. I love the world, and I'd love to come back to it someday, if Jake feels inclined to return to it. (Also I'm taking notes, just in case...)

Stares into the void because this was written BEFORE the panini...

Checked this one out mostly for the title, and it did live up to how cool a title it has.

*Thank you Netgalley and Feiwel & Friends/Macmillan for a copy of this ARC in advance for a review*

I really enjoyed this one a lot. The reason for me that it is not 4 stars (and is currently 3) is that the formatting on my Kindle was hard to read and it made reading Burt's book less enjoyable and more of a struggle for me. I think I'll try this again as a finished copy and see if I like it any better. Overall I loved the futuristic plot line, the twist (!!!! SO. GOOD) and Cleo's voice. She felt like a tween and she was so brave! I adored, too, her teacher Mrs. VAIN - what a hoot.

Very nearly a five-star book for me. My only criticism is that some of the action sequences and logistics were confusing.

The book seemed slow and hard to get into. I found myself struggling to pick it up and skimming quite a bit. As a children’s librarian I’m not sure how much I’ll recommend this one.

Its a very slow and long start, but it gets better after meeting Angie and Paige. My favorite character has to be Yorick and just the way Jake Burt describes the little guy and the idea of a drone going around with a skull is a. very badass and b. brings a smile to my face and last but not least c. Yorick is an absolute slay
