There was a lot I liked about this book and it definitely felt like a solid start to a series. I enjoyed Charlotte's character and the explorations of the dynamics within her family and community and of her developing relationship with Pitt. There's a lot of great commentary around familial and societal expectations and women's places within these, and I found the writing style compelling and easy to get on with too.

My main issue was that, while I found the main mystery strand of the book to be really solid overall, I felt that the ending was far too rushed and that we really missed out on some potentially great exploration of the themes involved. I will also say that my feelings about the ending are definitely wrapped up in what we now know about the author...

I already own the next couple of books in the series, so I'll definitely read those and I'm looking forward to continuing to get to know Charlotte and to hopefully getting immersed in some interesting mysteries with more developed conclusions. Beyond that, I'll see how committed I feel to venturing further!
