***Spoiler alerts***
Such an important piece of history. Incredibly detailed & researched on the absolute con man who built the KKK and the massive extent of the KKK's power in Indiana. I mean - I didn't expect that guy to be a GOOD GUY but the absolute depravity while people - not just looked the other way - genuinely celebrated him.
Part history lesson, part true crime, part legal drama, it's so messed up you forget you're reading a true story.
The woman (and her family)at the heart of this is a hero. If she had stayed silent or passed away before telling her story - or if he had been found not guilty - history could have been changed in such a frightening way.

Felt like two books. An interesting history of the KKK followed by an engaging legal drama. Some of this really blew me away. I had no idea how prevalent and accepted the KKK was in our society. Wish more people would read this and see the parallels with current events. Learned a lot and enjoyed it.
