Didn't care about the love interest. Didn't love the narration. Some voices sounded like a cartoon evil villain. Maybe I would have liked it if I didn't read the audio.

Perfect enemies to lovers read!
The Bridge Kingdom follows warrior princess Lara, sent to marry and betray King Aren to destroy his realm, but as she grows close to him she’s torn between duty and love.
This book felt like home for me. It was the perfect romantasy read after some heavier fantasy titles. Danielle Jensen’s writing is engaging and easy to follow, making it effortless to get swept up in the story. I really connected with the characters and loved the dual POVs from Lara and Aren. The world-building was strong, the plot easy to follow, and that cliffhanger ending has me reaching for book two!

Great story! I wish there was more building to Lara's past, and that their relationship moved a bit slower to be more realistic and add a slow burn effect. But otherwise solid series so far!
I wasn’t expecting much from this book. It has a lot of world building. You build a love for the main female character and it keeps you wanting more. I’m curious to see how this series will turn out.

Satisfying! Nothing epic or elaborate.
Just solid entertainment with a good love story.
Ohhhhh the angst!

I was recommended this book (thanks Em!) and will forever owe her for it!
I really liked this book. Political drama is my jam and pairing that with romance is always going to be a plus for me. This book does hit some of the "BookTok" cliches and tropes and characterizations that is super common in the past few years BUT this book did some things to set itself apart from that.
Ithacana and Maridrina are so unique to any other fantasy nation that I've read - particularly Ithacana. The world Jensen has crafted is so interesting and the geography/land really takes on a larger than life presence and feels like a major character. Ithacana's culture and its contrast with Maridrina's is incredibly interesting - giving reasons to why these two just don't get along besides The Bridge.
I really like that Lara is the grim dark broody one of the pairing while Aren is idealistic and outgoing. It's a great mix up from the typical formula and I like both of them AND them together very much. (Although, I wish Lara got to be more brutal and violent - hoping we get more of that in the sequel! Because it's quite different to /say/ she is but to see it on the rare occasion really hits hard).
TL;DR - Super fun, tropey but with enough uniqueness to make it a good read.
