Would have been five stars except for the ending. Really McNeil? It was so gloriously cheesey and amazing until the last 25 pages!!! And the secondary/tertiary characters? WOW. Libba Bray is my favorite at this wizarding, but I do love the way you make me love all the characters--even the sleazeballs. I totally needed this gruesome, awesome, spectacularly incredible escape, but you can't unsee/unlearn once you hit the end. And I am mad about that. Totally worth it though.
Book 3 in the #MurderTrending series and this may have been my favorite! This serves as a prequel to the first book. Eight extremely bright teenagers have won a spot participating in a Vegas escape room with a grand prize of $10M to the winner. The escape rooms turn out to be deadly and the eight teens realize the penalty for not solving the puzzles is death. By the end of the book we learn exactly why this story is a prequel, and it will leave you speechless.
PS. I’m never going in another escape room.

The intricacy in which these three books are connected is blowing my mind. I can tell I’m going to be thinking about this for a while. I need more!

17-year-old Persephone (Persey) struggles to live up to her perfect older brother, so when she is the first player to solve a supposedly unsolvable escape room & is invited to take part in the ultimate competition to win millions of dollars, she hesitantly accepts. 8 contestants are flown to Las Vegas to take part in the contest, & tension is high with the prize money at stake. When the competition starts it becomes clear that this is no ordinary escape room, but one with life or death consequences.
For me, this was the best book of the three. I love books set around escape rooms & this was a belter. I'm not gonna say any more than that as it's a read you don't want the merest hint of a spoiler for.

Of the murdertrending books I would say this is the best one. Still, I found the ending quite rushed and the twists predictable. Credit to the author for having several cascading reveals at the end of the book, I just wish the final room scenes had more meat to them. To me certain choices felt more like tying up potential loose ends than contributing to the narrative, while at the same time having an ending that felt unsatisfyingly open.
