This one was so funny and such a delight! I can’t believe I’ve slept on it so far this year! Super cute paranormal romance.

It had so much potential and at points I really enjoyed and loved this book and got a glimpse of the story I went into expecting. But it just missed the mark in writing style and character development. A little bit too much miscommunication and not understanding each other, mixed with a bit overkill on the "I'm not like the others in this small town"

As a Buffy, the Vampire Slayer, and Vampire Diaries lover, this was a fun and engaging read. It had not only the romantic tension that I love in the genre, but the nerdy and fun elements of being a part of a fandom.
I did think that it was interesting how Danan interwove werewolf lore into the story and used it to provide logical explanations for Devin's condition. At least at the beginning of the book, it felt a bit like a Nancy Drew mystery as he and Alex attempt to find answers.
I did think that the metaphor between Devin and the old racehorses was a bit belabored throughout the book, but overall it was a nice sentiment.
Alex was my favorite part of the book. She was dynamic and funny. I also really appreciated how we were introduced to her. She not only demonstrates a great compassion for animals but also suffers no fools. In many ways, I felt that she was a bit more fleshed out as a character than Devin because she had layers of personality, quirkiness, and family commitment that were interwoven into the plot. Devin's character felt a bit like a stereotype in some parts of the book, which does not mean necessarily that he did not feel real, but I was less able to connect with him because of it, whereas Alex was relatable.
I did find Alex's relationship with her friends incredibly entertaining, and I wish that there had been more interactions between them throughout the text (or in the epilogue). I also wanted to see more of her with her mentee. They had such a unique relationship, and the glimpses we did get made me want to know more about their relationship.
This is a fun read and a cute romance. I would recommend the audio version in particular.
