Such beautiful and delicate prose, I will never get over just how mesmerizing the descriptions of an Italian summer are. This book delves deep into the many facets of human longing, revealing the naked and base desires of a first love that transcends time.
I’m still slightly traumatized about the ‘apricock’ I wish I could erase that from my memory because WTF

What a beautifully written book.
Sometimes, I would feel guilty for reading someone's intimate thoughts presented with such tenderness. It is like reading a diary at times. You keep wondering, should I be reading this? At times, I wondered about the author; how beautifully he has written some paragraphs and has shared such intimate observations. He must have a remarkable eye for detail to have observed such beauty of summer, sea and the rural Italy to present them in book and provide us with such rich characters. It felt so real at times.
I read Giovanni's Room last year, and this year I read this and even though both books are not related to each other, for me, both come closer to each other. Beautifully written love stories between two beings.
It is an honest book. Though, it is not for everyone. If you are into modern romances, do check it out.

"And on that evening when we grow older still we'll speak about these two young men as though they were two strangers we met on the train and whom we admire and want to help along. And we'll want to call it envy, because to call it regret would break our hearts."

PS: i just cried my whole soul away listening to the song Our last summer by ABBA and i think it's the best soundtrack for this book.

this was a beautiful, vivid study of first love and teenage obsession. the prose in this book was absolutely stunning, but it was very heavy on the introspection and much too light on the dialogue which made it very slow moving and a bit frustrating at times. i think it is objectively a very good book, but just not one i particularly connected with.
