Very interesting and written in a conversational style that is understood when you realise the text was ghostwritten. This surgeon cares for his young patients and their families emotionally as well as medically. He manages to bring out some positive aspects of gruelling experiences and thoughtfully considers ethical dilemmas, veering towards quality rather than quantity of lives.

I just finished reading this and I'm feeling somewhere between inspired and a little emotionally traumatized.

In his debut memoir, Jay Jayamohan recollects several challenging cases which he undertook during his career as a pediatric neurosurgeon. The cases are mix of shocking, hallowing and heart-warming. Jayamohan doesn't dramatize or exaggerate these cases but recounts his experiences with a beautiful clarity, exploring the ethical dilemmas inevitably thrown up and expressing great empathy towards his patient and their families. His recognition of the limitations of medicine, the balancing act between quantity and quality of life and his respect for his profession and colleagues is humbling.

For lovers of Atul Gawande and Henry Marsh Everything That Makes Us Human is definitely a book to add to your reading list!
