Did I tell you it was worth the wait?

It was. And so much more.
Where do I begin? If you've read the previous books, you might now what looms over. The Free Navy just attacked Earth and reduced it to a wasteland. Based out of Luna, Earth and Mars plan a unified counter attack against the OPA. And when you bring James Holden into the picture, you can be pretty sure something is going to go wrong.

I forgot how much I missed the Rocinante and her crew. Reading about Naomi, Alex, Jim, Amos and Mai threatened to make my eyes water. I missssseeeed them. Marko, who single handledly almost wiped out Earth in a pre-emptive strike in the last book has suddenly changed to a commander in chief who has no idea what strategies are. I hated the fact that the writers didn't make him more menacing. The space needs villains.

Meanwhile the Martian Duarte who started the whole war of terrorism is behind one of those unchartered gates preparing something undoubtedly nefarious. And then there's the protomolecule. The next book looks interesting already.

so much excite!

I really like this series, but this book was a struggle. It was really really reaaaaaaally slow, with very little in the way of plot or character development. This installment isn't bad so much as it is unnecessary.

What is this book, even? It's hard to tell. So little happens. Similar to book 3, the entire story could have been told in about a third of the book. There are just too many characters here, many of which don't add any significant insight to the story (Clarissa... 🙄) and just drag out the end forever. Everything important literally happens in the last 3 chapters of the book. Way too many things remain unexplained, like
Spoilerthe whole thing with the disappearing ships and why that's even happening. I still don't know the reasons for the great mystery behind the alien races and planets. And I miss Miller (seriously). Is that stuff ever gonna be explained? *sigh*
. I hope eventually it will have been worth it reading these books, but I have the suspicion that I won't find out until 2019.
