Wow this book hit in ways I didn't expect. The jealousy of your peers, the struggle of being a woc in the entertainment industry, the bullshit of never being good enough and one scandle away from it all falling apart and all dominated by white supremecy.
One small critique is that Rukmini never sent Neela her opinion on Neela's new album and we know that her texts were going through unlike Kasi's so I do feel Neela did have the right to be upset by that which never really was addressed. But again Neela and Rukmini not reconciling makes sense as that's life.

The story didn’t seem very complex and none of the characters were ones I could root for. I liked some aspects about women of color sticking together and using music as a method of protest and expressing frustration but there wasn’t really much of a plot.

This book was a love letter to Toronto and one that was much appreciated while I quarantine in my house around the corner from grapefruit moon.
